The Centre for Global Security Challenges is a large, interdisciplinary research centre, hosted in the School of Politics and International Studies at the University of Leeds. We possess world-leading, multi-method expertise in the study of security, covering three substantive areas: 1) Peace and Conflict, 2) Political Violence, and 3) Global Reordering.

Our research:

  • attracts regular support from leading international funding bodies, such as the UKRI and EU, as well as a range of European governments, foundations, and charitable trusts.
  • features regularly in world-leading journals (e.g. British Journal of Political Science, British Journal of Politics and International Relations, Conflict Management and Peace Science, European Journal of International Relations, European Journal of International Security, Foreign Policy Analysis, International Affairs, International Political Sociology, International Organization, International Studies Quarterly, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Journal of Peace Research, Journal of Politics, Review of International Studies, Security Dialogue, and World Development).
  • impacts policy makers and practitioners, as well as the general public. We work with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Home Office, the Department for International Development, Northeast and Northwest Counterterrorism offices, the European Union, the United Nations Development Programme, and a range of European governments, as well as frequently engaging with UK and international media.
