Quantitative PhD Opportunities at the University of Leeds
Opportunities for a quantitative PhD in Politics and International Relations at the Centre for Global Security Challenges at the University of Leeds
The Centre for Global Security Challenges in POLIS, is looking to attract excellent quantitative PhD applicants who we can support to become a part of our research community. At the application stage we can offer support to applicants, provide feedback on their research proposal and support in applying for a position at POLIS. Once accepted, we will provide support in applying for scholarships.
POLIS PhD Applicants may be nominated for several fees and maintenance scholarships, such as the WRDTP ESRC Pathway (this also includes the 2 x Interdisciplinary Research Awards and 2 x WRDTP/SHF Awards for Black British students) and Advanced Quantitative Methods (AQM) Awards. We also can nominate strong applicants to departmental and university scholarships, such as the POLIS Global Security Challenges Scholarship.
We are looking for people who are interested in a quantitative-based PhD, have an excellent academic record and/or have research experience. While a research proposal developed by the applicant is typically necessary, in this instance we can also provide support for identifying and developing proposals. For this initiative, we are inviting applications in the following areas:
- Authoritarian Politics
- Civil-Military Relations
- Dynamics and Outcomes of Non-Violent Resistance
- External Support in Armed Conflict
- Female Rebel Combatants and Post-Conflict Politics
- Gender and Peacebuilding
- Interstate Conflict
- Onset, Dynamics, Termination, and Impacts of Civil Wars
- Terrorism within and outside of Civil Wars
If you are interested in the topics or have your own research proposal which relates to the themes and/or uses quantitative methods, please get in touch with Gordon Clubb at g.clubb@leeds.ac.uk. In order to be considered for the above scholarships, your proposal will have to be formally submitted to POLIS by 25 January 2023.
