Introducing Dr Scott Edwards to the CGSC
We are delighted to welcome Scott Edwards to the Centre for Global Security Challenges.
Scott Edwards is a research fellow at the University of Leeds. His empirical research interests center on processes of region-building in Southeast Asia, with a particular focus on regional efforts combatting novel security issues. This has primarily been applied to Southeast Asia’s maritime security governance, but has since broadened out to consider the Indo-Pacific. His theoretical basis is on the role of trust in international relations, where he also engages with ideas regarding Communities of Practice. Scott received his PhD at the University of Birmingham in 2019 (supervised by Nicholas Wheeler), and was formerly a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Bristol, where he worked on maritime crime and responses to it in the Indo-Pacific.
His most recent academic publications include:
Malaysia: Between Untenable Intelligence Tradition and Unrealized Reform
Innovation and New Strategic Choices: Refreshing the UK’s National Strategy for Maritime Security (with Christian Bueger & Tim Edmunds)
Scott also has a keen interest in policy engagement, submitting evidence to committees and producing various policy & practitioner-oriented outputs.
The most recent include:
Implementing the UK’s Indo-Pacific Tilt in Southeast Asia through equitable and sustainable partnerships (with Robert Yates)
Reinventing the wheel? Evidence on role of the military in countering migrant crossings (with Tim Edmunds)
