Dr Margherita Belgioioso presented her research at the Launch event for the York Centre for Conflict and Security (YCCS) at the University of York on Wednesday 21 September 2022. The event was called ‘Surveying the Horizons of Peace, Conflict and Security Research’, and Dr Belgioioso presented on a panel on ‘Thinking about Conflict and Security’ alongside colleagues from the University of York and the University of St Andrews.

Dr Belgioioso’s presentation put forward a Rationalist approach, informed by Fearon’s ‘Rationalist Explanations for War’, to consider contentious political behaviours and outcomes. In particular, Dr Belgioioso considered what a Rationalist approach might mean in relation to non-violent acts of resistance and acts of terrorism in countries experiencing civil wars.
